Who We Are

Who we are, our beliefs, and where we're headed as a church family.

Our Story

We are a group of committed followers of Jesus Christ who seek to reflect his image through love, service, and holiness. Sometimes we struggle and mess up. Sometimes we thrive and fulfill our calling by bringing glory to God. All the time, we depend on our Lord and Savior and put our hope in him.

Winnsboro Church of Christ was founded in 1942 by six families. Those families saw a need to spread the life-changing love of Jesus with the community of Winnsboro. Although many things have changed since then, our focus remains on sharing the Good News of Jesus and being his representatives: walking as He walked, loving as He loved, and forgiving as He forgave. Jesus remains at the center of who we are. We collectively proclaim:

Jesus Is LORD

Jesus Is RISEN

Jesus Is COMING

Your Story

No matter where you're from, no matter what you have been through, you're always welcome at the Winnsboro Church of Christ. The Good News of Jesus is for you just as much as it is for us. You belong here. Wherever you're at in your faith journey, we encourage you to let us walk along beside you so we can follow Jesus together.

What We Believe

We affirm with Christians and churches throughout history these core tenets of our faith

We believe there is one God in three persons (the Trinity). God the Father, God the Son (Jesus), and God the Holy Spirit.

Genesis 1:26-27 | Deuteronomy 6:4 | John 14:16-17 | 1 Corinthians 6:19-20 | 2 Corinthians 13:14 | Ephesians 4:6

We believe Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God who was crucified, buried, but then rose from the grave. He ascended and now sits enthroned in heaven and one day will come again for the final judgment.

John 1:1 | John 1:14 | John 1:18 | Colossians 1:15-21 | Hebrews 1:1-3

We believe the Bible is our inspired and reliable guide which reveals to us the nature and workings of God. It is the authority we rely upon and submit to in our lives and in our churches.

Psalm 19:7-11 | Psalm 119:105 | John 17:17 | 2 Timothy 3:16-17

We believe we live in a fallen world and all people have sinned and fallen short of the glory and holiness of God. In this fallen state, we are dependent on God to save us by his power and mercy.

Romans 3:23 | Ephesians 2:12 | Romans 6:23

We believe in the coming resurrection and life everlasting for those who are in Christ Jesus.

Matthew 22:31-32 | Matthew 25:46 | John 6:47 | 1 Corinthians 15:12-26 | Titus 3:7 | 1 John 5:12

Other positions and practices we hold

***The following are important to us in varying degrees and sometimes make us unique from other Christians groups. We do not, however, let them become our core identity - that place is reserved for Christ alone. We simply list them here as a helpful clarification to assist your understanding and so you can compare us to other churches and denominations you may be familiar with.

We place a high value on the importance and centrality of baptism (immersion) for the forgiveness of sins.

Acts 2:38 | Romans 6:3-4 | 1 Peter 3:21

We observe the Lord's Supper every Sunday in our worship services.

Acts 20:7 | 1 Corinthians 11:23-26

We worship without the use of accompanying musical instruments.

Colossians 3:16 | Ephesians 5:19

We adhere to male leadership within our worship services.

1 Timothy 2:12 | 1 Corinthians 14:34

We organize our congregation independently and autonomously and appoint shepherds/elders from within who lead us.

Acts 14:23 | 1 Timothy 3:1-7 | Titus 1:5 | 1 Peter 5:1-3

We recognize no official ordination of our ministers, but instead regard them simply as members in our congregation with specific responsibilities.

Ephesians 4:11-12 | 1 Timothy 4:11-5:2
